Arbaeen, the 20th of Safar, marks the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. Millions of pilgrims walk toward Karbala each year, forming the world's largest religious gathering.
According to narrations, Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari was the first Arbaeen visitor. The Arbaeen walk from Najaf to Karbala (about 80 km) is a tradition that grows stronger each year.
