The 25th of Ordibehesht honors the Persian language and commemorates Ferdowsi, the author of the Shahnameh (Book of Kings) and Iran's greatest epic poet.
Ferdowsi (940-1020 CE) spent about 30 years composing the Shahnameh. With over 50,000 couplets, it is the greatest Persian epic and one of the masterpieces of world literature.
